Since I graduated from college, I came to Guangzhou. My first job was as a salesperson in the phone accessories wholesale market (Guangzhou Nanfang Building). Every day, foreigners from different countries came to our shop to ask for prices and place orders. This job really helped me improve my spoken English and learn about many different cultures from various countries. After one year, I quit this job because my eyes felt uncomfortable from being under strong lighting all day, every day.
After quitting my second job, I took a leap to co-found my own company with my partner, mainly focusing on supplying cosmetic bottle containers for foreign customers. Since over 50% of cosmetics in China are produced in Guangzhou, and the export quantity of cosmetics is also massive, there is a natural advantage to doing cosmetic packaging business in Guangzhou. To be honest, the first year was very hard. We sent out a lot of sample orders and received many follow-up orders, but most of the order quantities were not large. We were busy every day but still could hardly make ends meet. Things turned around in the following years: many customers gradually increased their order quantities, and we understood our old customers' needs well, so communication was efficient. In addition, new customers kept coming in, and everything got better. Now our cosmetic bottle container business is still running (www.crystalsensebottle.com).
Why did I start working as an independent personal sourcing assistant for foreign customers in 2025? The most important reason is that I met many customers who bought cosmetic bottles from us and also needed other products. However, they were too busy, and it was not cost-effective or time-efficient for them to handle this themselves, so they asked me to do it for them. Since I live in Guangzhou, where there are over 200 wholesale markets and numerous factories for different products, it is easy to find almost all types of products. As you can tell from my work experience, I have always tried to step out of my comfort zone to expand my experience in different industries. So being a sourcing assistant is more challenging and also more promising.
